Join us as we celebrate with a rich variety of music from different Latin-American countries. You don't need to master the Spanish language in order to enjoy the melodies performed by El Coro.

Corola Awards

The Corola Awards pay tribute to outstanding individuals who have contributed to the cultural enrichment and well-being of the Western Pennsylvania community.

Corola Award Winner 2010

During its 2010 Chritmas Concert, Coro Latinoamericano honored Dr. José F. Bernardo as the recipient of COROLA Award. Dr. Bernardo, original from Perú, is the Director of the UPMC Presbyterian Dialysis Unit. He volunteers professional services to Pittsburgh's Hispanic community and promotes Latin-American culture when playing his guitar and charango at local events.

Corola Award Winner 2009

The 2009 Corola Award recipient was Michele Rothert. She strongly collaborates with arts related activities in the Hispanic Community in Pittsburgh.

The 2009 Christmas Concert was dedicated to Mrs. Salomé Gutiérrez, leader in the Hispanic Community, and Mrs. Rosa Thompson, member of El Coro. Both passed away on 2009.

Corola Award Winner 2008

The 2008 Corola Award recipient was Liliana Petruche, from Argentina. She promotes the music ond arts of Latin America.

Corola Award Winner 2007

The Corola Award winner in 2007 was Maestro Daniel Marchand, from Venezuela, funder of Latinoamerican Choir on 1997.

Sister Janice Vanderneck, Pittsburgh Latino Catholic Community
Sister Janice is deeply involved developing programs to address the needs of the rapid growth Latino population in Pittsburgh. Her devocion and leadership are outstanding.

Corola Award Winner 2005

Martha Mantilla, Ph.D. Education
Dr. Martha Mantilla, from Colombia, is the host and producer of the Revista Radial Latinoamericana, a Library Assistant for the Latin American Collection at the University of Pittsburgh's Hillman Library, and also a related faculty member of the Center for Latin American Studies. Dr. Mantilla was honored for her work towards raising awareness and building strong ties between the Latin American Community and the Pittsburgh community at large.

Patricia Documet, Ph.D. Public Health
Dr. Document was honored for her outstanding contribution to the Hispanic Community in Pittsburgh.

Corola Awards Winners 2003

Brent Rondón, Manager, International Program, The Duquesne University Chrysler Corporation Small Business Development Center (SBDC), born in the U.S. and raised in Arequipa, Perú. Rondón has demonstrated a strong commitment and boundless energy to helping businesses and individuals to achieve success and lead productive lives in Pittsburgh. President of Latinamerican Cultural Union 2003-2004.

Father Joaquin Studwell, O.F.M. born in McKeesport, PA, former chaplain of the latino Community of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Fr. Studwell was based until earlier this year at St. Hyacinth, Oakland, Pittsburgh, and now serves at St. Stanislaus Church, Cleveland, Ohio. He was honored for his spiritual leadership, multicultural communication skills, and demonstrated friendship to the Latin American community in Pittsburgh.

Corola Awards Winners 2002

Alan Boal, a native of Freedom, PA, near Pittsburgh, whose grandparents were born in Spain. Boal is a veteran news broadcaster and former member of KDKA, WTAE and WPXI news trends.

María de Los Ángeles, born in México City, México, distinguished educator on local and international levels and a community leader who helped shape the development of the Latin American Cultural Union, a social and family organization based in Pittsburgh.

Joen Vásquez, born in Caracas, Venezuela, a graduate of The Juilliard School and acclaimed violist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, as well as an active supporter of cultural events within Pittsburgh's Latin American community.
